This blog post was prompted by this story about the Florida DOT providing funding to study the building of a people mover over 3-5 years, with service starting in 2028-2030, at Ft. Lauderdale Airport. Per some of the proposals of the Ft. Lauderdale Airport long term plan, the proposed people mover would circle the airport, with connections to an intermodal center adjacent to US 1 and the Brightline alignment with continuation to the Broward County Convention Center and Port Everglades Cruise Ship terminals on the east, and possible western extension to Tri-Rail and car rental companies. Along with the airport, these four locations would act as feeder systems to Brightline and vis a versa.

IMHO, these connecting services and the airport should incentive Brightline to Build a station at Ft. Lauderdale Airport by 2030.

The Intermodal Transit Center would accommodate the people mover and could accommodate Brightline, as well as IMHO, resort buses and commuter buses, similar to MEARS Connect and the Sunshine Flyer in Orlando between the Orlando airport and Disney. Brightline could do package deals with these companies to make travel as seamless as possible. The Partnership model could also be done with airlines, rental car companies, hotels, beach resorts, and nearby attractions (such as the airboat and gator parks in the everglades). Brightline could even expand to operating its own bus services or just partnering exclusively with one company. Should train service be disrupted for any reason, passengers could seamlessly be transferred to the bus to complete their journey at the intermodal center be a model for building intermodal centers at all or some Brightline stations.

Located between Aventura Mall and Downtown Ft. Lauderdale, a Brightline Station at Ft. Lauderdale Airport's intermodal station would open up more options for travelers and residents alike.
